On the afternoon of Thursday April 22nd, the webinar “PES Day 2021 Webinar: Towards a Sustainable Energy Future” was successfully held online. It was co-hosted by IEEE PES Women in Power UK & Ireland and IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter at The University of Manchester.
The event had great participation with more than 30 attendees and insightful discussion.

On this occasion, we had the honour of having the following female-leader speakers:
Dr Jessica Bian is President-Elect of the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES). She gave the talk: “PES Women in Power Initiative”, in which she provided an overview of the IEEE/PES Women in Power (WIP) initiative.
The speaker explained the goals of WIP and the benefits of joining, pointing out that WIP is not just for women – everyone is welcome to join.
Dr Edvina Uzunovic is a Professor in the ECE department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Dr Uzunovic gave the talk “IEEE PES & Education”, in which she spoke about IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) history and the current PES organisational structure.
Dr Lina Bertling Tjernberg is a Professor in Power Grid Technology at KTH the Royal Institute of Technology.
Dr Tjernberg gave the talk “Sustainable power grids”. The presentation provided a general discussion about the developments of the electric power system for a sustainable society and also highlighted recent events, including power capacity shortages in Sweden and the power loss incident in Texas.
