Watch Again | IEEE WIE UKI Ambassadors’ Scheme Celebrates 1st Anniversary on International Women’s Day
According to Sheryl Sandberg, “In the future there will be no female leaders. There will just be leaders.” IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) UK & Ireland ambassadors’ scheme is continuously striving to bring this future nearer.
On International Women’s Day we are proud to celebrate our first anniversary. It was a year full of events, activities and challenges to not only promote women in engineering and technology but also to create a culture of diversity and inclusion, and its acceptance as the norm rather than exception. We envisage a vibrant community of IEEE women and men collectively using their diverse talents to innovate for the benefit of humanity.
This video summarises our past year’s events and reflects on how we are progressing to reach our goal. Apart from our main goal of global diversity in science, technology, mathematics, computing and engineering, our events also aim to expose the audience to novel areas and aspects of engineering and computing which solve real world problems, establish links for industrial collaborations, networking and mentorship and create connections for future research opportunities.
Last year, we organised four ‘Early Career Talks’ to provide recent PhD graduates and postdoctoral researchers with a platform to share their work. This on-going program is now planning the fifth episode of the series.
The program also delivered two other events for promoting a diverse industry-academia collaboration, titled ‘Challenges and Opportunities: Towards Better WIE Future’ and ‘Empowering Women in the Triple Helix Model’. All our events included variety of topics and speakers representing men and women from both academia and industry. We are grateful to the sponsors, speakers and attendees of events for making them a success.
We are keen to continue working towards a better future for humanity both in terms of technology and diversity and look forward to your participation and encouragement. We wish a happy International Women’s Day to all women and men supporting equality!
