Watch Again | IEEE UK and Ireland Section Annual Christmas Lecture 2020
The annual IEEE UK and Ireland Section Christmas Lecture took place on 18th December. This year, due to Coronavirus, the event was held online instead of its traditional home of the Regent Street Cinema at the University of Westminster. Here is another chance to watch the whole event.
Welcome – Dr Mona Ghassemian, Chair, UK and Ireland Section
Opening Address – 2020 IEEE President-Elect Kathy Land
Lecture 1 – PACT – Private Automated Contact Tracing for COVID-19 by Dr Marc Zissman (MIT)
This lecture provides a brief background of the COVID-19 pandemic and how automated contact tracing might fit into the overall fight against its spread. It discusses and assesses technical approaches for using smartphone technology to detect contact exposure events while preserving privacy, and reports on PACT’s impact to date and the road ahead.
Lecture 2 – Advancing Ethical Aspects in AI Systems and Technologies: The Four Words Defining Our Future by Konstantinos Karachalios
The talk addresses the question of whether and how IEEE, through its leadership and membership, recognises these challenges and – if yes – what are the programs and plans aiming at reducing the gap between aspirational declarations and reality, starting with the specific case of AI systems.
Many thanks to speakers Dr Marc A. Zissman, Dr Konstantinos Karachalios and 2020 IEEE President-Elect Kathy Land as well as Section organisers, Mona Ghassemian, Mike Hinchey, Ali Hessami, Eduardo Audiche, Izzet Kale, Matthew Gream, Roy Ediss and Nick Wainwright.
