Section Welcomes IEEE President-Elect Prof Saifur Rahman
UK and Ireland Section was delighted to welcome IEEE President-Elect Prof Saifur Rahman to the UK recently. Prof Rahman held a meeting at the University of Westminster on the evening of Tuesday 25th October 2022 along with IEEE Chief Operating Officer Stephen Welby.
Prof Rahman spoke about his priorities for IEEE during his tenure as President from 2023-2025 and took questions and comments from the audience. Additionally Stephen Welby spoke about some of the developments within the operations of IEEE, particularly around the increase in membership and geographic changes in the Regions.
During the meeting Nagham Saeed and Eduardo Audiche received their recent Region 8 Awards from IEEE President-Elect Prof Saifur Rahman and Prof Izzet Kale, Chair, UK and Ireland Section.
Following the formal meeting, the event continued during an excellent meal at a local restaurant.
Both IEEE Executives were also in the UK to celebrate the IEEE Milestone Award that recognises the outstanding engineering achievement by Godfrey Hounsfield, enabling the practical realisation of high-resolution X-ray images of internal structures of the human body and marking the beginning of a new era in clinical medicine.
The plaque unveiling took place close to Jupiter House, formerly the EMI Head Office, Clayton Road, Hayes the following day.
