PES Day 2020 Webinar organised by IEEE PES SBC at the University of Manchester
On Wednesday, 22nd April 2020, the IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter at UoM hosted an annual event to celebrate PES Day 2020. Due to the current situation with COVID-19, the event was hosted online (15:00 to 16:00 UK time) and it attracted 98 registrations. Among the interested people there were 54 IEEE members and 43 PES members.
The webinar theme was ‘The Future of Power and Energy’. To celebrate PES Day, the event aim was centred to showcase the global and local impact of the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES). Our invited speakers talked about the history and future of PES, the benefits of joining PES and membership guidance, and the impact of PES in different continents.
In a virtual panel session, our three invited speakers shared their views on the main topic “Affordable and Clean Energy to the Community”. In the discussion several questions were addressed such as: Affordable or Clean, which one weighs more? What technological advances and policy changes are needed to bring clean and affordable energy to the community? What would be the approach in developing countries?
The general opinion of the attendees to the event were positive, with a good evaluation of the event, especially about the organisation and the discussion in the virtual panel session.
Finally, we would like to thank Dr. Angeliki Loukatou, Mr Keyi Wang, and Miss Uduak Akpanedet for their wonderful presentations, and insightful ideas shared on the panel session.
The presentation slides and webinar recording are both available:
