About this Event
IEEE WIE in Engineering is an initiative with the goal to facilitate the recruitment and retention of women in technical disciplines globally. We envision a vibrant community of IEEE women and men collectively using their diverse talents to innovate for the benefit of humanity.
Early Career Talk aims to expose the participants to novel areas and aspect of engineering in solving real world problems. It also aims to establish a link for networking, mentorship and to create a connection for research opportunities.
Talk Title: Using AI-based human identification in improving surveillance system efficiency
Speaker: Eman Alajrami
Eman received her B.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG), Palestine and a BEng. degree (with honours) in Software Engineering from the University of Palestine (UP). She received the M.Sc. degree in Computer Information Systems with distinction from Jordan. She has a long experience in working in the academic fields related to computer science. She was a lecturer in the Faculty of Information Technology at UP, and she was the Head of the Multimedia Department at the faculty of IT since 2016. She has a great commitment to keep learning and developing her professional skills and research skills. She enjoys solving challenging research problems. Her research interests include Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning. She has publications related to AI and Deep learning. Her dreams come true when she finds her research outcomes are tangible and beneficial to the healthcare.

Speaker: Livia Lantini
Livia Lantini received the BSc (Hons.) degree in Civil Engineering and the MSc degree in Infrastructure and Transportation Engineering with the Department of Engineering, Rome Tre University, Rome, Italy. Since 2018 she is pursuing the PhD degree with the School of Computing and Engineering, University of West London, London, UK. Her research focuses on the assessment of civil engineering infrastructures using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and other non-destructive techniques, and in health monitoring and assessment of trees using GPR. Miss Lantini was a recipient of the Best Paper Award at the 2020 43rd International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing (TSP – IEEE Conference Record #49548).
Speaker: Sanober Farheen Memon
Sanober is a PhD Researcher at Optical Fibre Sensors Research Centre, Electronic and Computer Engineering Department, University of Limerick (UL), Ireland. She received the B.E Degree in Electronic Engineering and the M.E Degree in Electronic Systems Engineering from Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET) Jamshoro, Pakistan in 2010 and 2014, respectively. She is a member of IEEE WIE, IEEE Photonics Society and IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Society.
Before joining UL, Sanober served MUET for more than 3 years as a faculty member and taught variety of modules to B.Eng. students such as Basic Electronics, Instrumentation and Control, Signal Processing, Artificial Neural Networks and Fuzzy Logic and co-supervised Final Year Projects. Her current research interests include optical fibre sensors, photonics engineering, instrumentation and measurement and intelligent systems. Sanober has been a recipient of several international and national level scholarships and awards. A few notable scholarships and awards include prestigious European Union EM INTACT Doctorate Scholarship, UL Postgraduate Residential Scholarship, UL Electronic and Computer Engineering Departmental Funding, Travel Grant for attending IEEE Sensors Application Symposium USA, Merit Scholarship from MUET, Pakistan during her undergraduate studies, Gold Medal for presenting best student paper in IEEEP All Pakistan Students’ Seminar 2012, Star Laureate 2011 Title in the field of Engineering and Certificate of Excellence by South Asia Publications with a Biographical Profile Publication in the Book “Galaxies of Who’s Who in Pakistan 2011”. She has organized and coordinated many international and national level conferences and technical research events held at Mehran UET, Pakistan and University of Limerick, Ireland.

Speaker: Iman El-Dessouki
Iman is IEEE WIE UK and Ireland Ambassador. She is volunteering in IEEE UKI since 2016 and helped in many activities since then. Iman has more than 8 years of experience in telecommunication company. She is working in state-of-the-art technologies. Iman has experience in multiple areas including digital transformation, machine learning, datamining, intelligent networks, software development and testing, project management, training and consultation. In line with the latest technology trends, Iman started working as R&D consultant focusing on Internet of Things (IoT) and Blockchain since 2017. Iman holds her B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Computer Engineering, from Cairo University.
