Event Report 2 | WESYP 2023 Congress, EPFL Lausanne, Switzerland by Yinka Leo Ogundiran
The WESYP 2023 Congress took place between 15th and 17th September 2023 at Ecole Polytechnique Federale Lausanne (EPFL) and it provided a great opportunity to bring together IEEE members from Region 8.
Here Yinka Leo Ogundiran, Chair IEEE Sheffield Student Branch and Vice-Chair of UK and Ireland Section SAC, gives his personal perspective on attending WESYP 2023 Congress.
Attending the IEEE WESYP 2023 in Laussane, Switzerland, was an unforgettable experience. Switzerland is a beautiful country with a rich history! We had a tour of some historical sites in Lausanne which will live long in my memory.
In the series of events at the congress, I had the privilege to meet and network with other vibrant students and young professionals from different IEEE OUs in Western Europe and other parts of the world. Among the many things that we learnt, it was particularly enlightening to learn about the advancements in robotics, and the capabilities of AI-enabled technologies which are applicable to our daily lives and can act as enabling tools in accelerating our technical development as electronics and electrical engineers.
We had an interactive session about sustainability and net zero transition initiative, which was quite engaging. We also learnt about personal branding and we were given tips to help enhance our employability. I am gratified to have learnt all these as they will be very useful for my personal development and career growth.
We also had lots of fun and I made new friends. And many thanks to IEEE UK and Ireland Section for the sponsorship, without which this wouldn’t have been possible. I look forward to attending future SYP events in the future!”
Thanks once again to the Section for the great opportunity!
