1st Virtual Power and Energy Pub Quiz
On Friday, 11th June 2021, the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Student Branch Chapter at the University of Manchester (UoM) hosted the 1st Virtual Pub Quiz on Power and Energy.
This event aimed to boost the reputation of the IEEE and the PES community while providing a platform for people to engage with each other and have fun during the COVID-19 pandemic. The event attracted 23 registrations.
Mr Keyi Wang, chair of the organising committee, welcome everyone and this was followed by a talk on introducing the impact and membership benefits of IEEE and PES by Mr Omoniyi Akinpelumi, who is the vice-chair of the organising committee. The attendees then were given social time in arranged break-out rooms.
Debates were conducted on pre-defined topics about the future power network including the question of AC or DC transmission and the possibility of a fully renewable network.
A quiz session took place with a 14 questions mostly on low carbon energy. Points were awarded for both the correctness of the answers as well as the speed, meaning that everyone remained fully focused and excited!
The quiz winner and runner-ups were rewarded with £20, £15 and £10 cash respectively.
This event received positive feedback from attendees, with comments including “well-designed”, “fun”, and “informative”.
The IEEE PES SBC at UoM would like to thank all the attendees and will deliver more activities.
